The Archive Project is data-basing, cataloging and indexing over 600 film titles, animation cells, correspondence, awards and artifacts from the almost 50 years of filmmaking that was so much a part of Sy’s life.
Sy Wexler’s Archive contains 950 films and tapes,
representing 750 unique film titles made by Churchill-Wexler Films or Wexler Films, between 1947 and 2003.
The Wexler Films Archive Database includes a broad range of data on these titles, as well as archival materials such as high-resolution scans of storyboards, animation cells, sketches and photos. PDFs of annotated scripts,
study guides, correspondence, development notes, film reviews, media coverage and more. Photos of awards are also included in this FileMaker Pro database.
The films played collectively at 323 Film Festivals around the world from 1949 through the ‘90s. The venues included major world cultural events such as the Edinburgh International Festival, the Venice Biennale, as well as more specialized curated festivals
focusing on educational, medical and scientific films, across the United States as well as in Canada, Britain, Australia, France,
Italy, Spain, Belgium, Yugoslavia, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Argentina, Brazil, Iran, India and Uruguay.
The films were honored collectively with 266 Awards from 323 film festivals worldwide.
The Archive database also includes information and archival materials for an additional 172 Churchill-Wexler and Wexler Films
titles not currently in the collection. Many of these titles are held at the National Library of Medicine and the Library of Congress.
